According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 18, 2026, Barcelona have confirmed that Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde will miss Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain after suffering injuries during their victory over Real Betis.
Garcia faces a potential four-week absence, while Kounde’s availability for Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid remains uncertain.
The injuries represent a significant setback for Hansi Flick’s side ahead of two crucial fixtures. Barcelona are already without Andreas Christensen, leaving the German manager with limited defensive options.
Barcelona confirmed that Garcia has sustained a muscle injury to the rectus femoris in his right thigh. The club estimates that the versatile defender will require three to four weeks to recover.
His absence will be particularly concerning for Flick because Garcia can operate at both right-back and centre-back. Barcelona have struggled to establish consistency in those positions, making his versatility important to the team.
Garcia is therefore expected to miss the upcoming encounters against PSG and Real Madrid. His potential return is not anticipated until the second half of November.
Unlike Garcia, Kounde has suffered an ankle sprain that could allow him to return sooner. Barcelona confirmed that the French defender will miss the PSG encounter, but his participation in Sunday’s meeting with Real Madrid will depend on his recovery.
Flick will hope Kounde recovers in time for the highly anticipated El Clasico. However, the manager must prepare alternative defensive arrangements if the defender remains unavailable.
Joao Cancelo could fill the right-back position, while Xavi Espart may operate on the opposite flank. Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi appear to be the main available centre-back options, although Frenkie de Jong has also been training in that position.
Barcelona must now manage their defensive resources carefully as they prepare for two demanding fixtures that could significantly influence their season.
