According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Real Madrid secured an important 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid started the match with confidence and created several chances as they looked to take control of the game, while RB Leipzig also threatened going forward but struggled to make their opportunities count. The home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Bernardo Silva tapped the ball into the net after Arda Güler's effort was saved by the Leipzig goalkeeper.

Leipzig had a chance to respond before the break, but Christopher Nkunku failed to beat Thibaut Courtois after finding himself in a promising position, allowing Real Madrid to take their narrow lead into half-time.

The hosts continued from where they stopped after the restart, and Güler doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute with a simple finish following a well-worked move involving Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé. Real Madrid remained dangerous in attack, using their pace and movement to put the visitors under pressure.

Mbappé added a third goal in the 83rd minute after being set up by Yan Diomande, giving the home supporters more reason to celebrate. Leipzig managed to pull one back two minutes later when substitute Tidiam Gomis finished from close range after receiving a pass from Christoph Baumgartner.

However, Real Madrid responded almost immediately as Diomande found the net in the 87th minute, with Brahim Díaz providing the assist to restore the three-goal advantage. Leipzig could not find another response before the final whistle, as Real Madrid finished the game with 62 per cent possession.

With the victory, José Mourinho's Real Madrid moved up to fourth place on the UEFA Champions League table with nine points, while RB Leipzig dropped to 30th position following the heavy defeat.
