According to a report by ESPN on Tuesday November 3rd, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos are preparing for another important encounter against Brazil in the semi-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco. The upcoming meeting brings back memories of their previous encounters at the competition, particularly their 2016 meeting, when Brazil defeated Nigeria by a narrow margin.
The two countries have faced each other twice in the history of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, with Brazil recording one victory and the other match ending in a draw. Nigeria are yet to defeat their South American opponents at this level.
Their first meeting took place during the 2008 edition of the tournament, where both teams played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Ebere Orji and Amarachi Okoronkwo scored for Nigeria, while Ketlen and Rafaelle were on target for Brazil.
However, their second encounter in 2016 ended differently, as Brazil secured a 1-0 victory over the Flamingos. The match was played on October 1, 2016, during the group stage of the competition in Jordan.
Brazil's Micaelly scored the decisive goal in the 42nd minute, giving her country the advantage before half-time. Nigeria tried to find an equaliser but could not break through the Brazilian defence, as their opponents held on to claim all three points.
The defeat was a disappointing result for Nigeria, who had hoped to begin their campaign with a positive performance. Despite creating some opportunities, the Flamingos were unable to convert their chances into goals.
Based on their previous meetings, Brazil have recorded one win against Nigeria, while the remaining encounter ended in a draw. The South American nation therefore has the better historical record heading into Wednesday's semi-final.
Nigeria will now have another opportunity to change that record when both teams meet on November 4, 2026, at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The Flamingos will be determined to put their previous disappointment behind them and secure a victory that would take them into their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final. A successful result against Brazil would also represent an important moment in Nigeria's history at the competition.
