According to a report by BBC Sports on Monday, October 26, 2026, Barcelona remain at the top of the Spanish LaLiga standings despite suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid, while Atletico Madrid have continued to put pressure on the league leaders following their latest victory.
Barcelona entered Sunday's El Clasico hoping to strengthen their position at the summit, but Real Madrid produced an impressive performance to secure all three points at Camp Nou.
Kylian Mbappe was the standout performer for Real Madrid, scoring twice to inspire his side to an important victory over their biggest rivals.
The French international opened the scoring in the 41st minute before Raphinha restored parity for Barcelona in the second half.
However, Mbappe struck again in the closing stages to secure a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid, ending Barcelona's perfect start to the league campaign.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona remain first with 27 points from 10 matches, having recorded nine victories and one defeat.
Atletico Madrid occupy second position with 25 points after 10 matches, leaving them just two points behind Barcelona.
However, Atletico's latest league victory was a 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, October 24, rather than the reported 2-0 scoreline.
Real Madrid remain third with 24 points from 10 matches following their victory over Barcelona. The result means they are now just three points behind the league leaders.
Real Betis occupy fourth position with 20 points from 10 matches, while Real Sociedad sit fifth with 19 points after securing a 2-1 victory against Levante.
Sevilla are sixth with 14 points from nine matches, while Alaves occupy seventh position with 12 points.
Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo and Villarreal complete the top ten, with all three clubs having accumulated 12 points.
Further down the standings, Deportivo La Coruna occupy 11th position with 11 points, followed by Osasuna and Racing Santander, who also have 11 points.
Levante and Elche occupy 14th and 15th positions respectively, with 10 points each.
Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano sit 16th with nine points, while Getafe occupy 17th position with the same number of points.
Espanyol are 18th with eight points, Valencia sit 19th with six points, and Malaga remain bottom with five points.
Barcelona's defeat has made the title race increasingly competitive, with only three points separating the leading three clubs.
Hansi Flick's side will now be determined to return to winning ways, while Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will hope to take advantage of any further mistakes from the league leaders.
With several matches still remaining in the campaign, the battle for the Spanish league title promises to become even more interesting in the coming weeks..
