According to BBC Sport on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Real Madrid strengthened their position in LaLiga with a convincing 4-1 triumph over Sevilla.
The home side began the match brightly and took the lead in the 30th minute through Arda Guler, who produced an excellent left-footed finish from outside the box. Yan Diomande set up the opening goal. Madrid doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Kylian Mbappe converted Jude Bellingham's pass, giving the hosts a two-goal cushion heading into the interval.
After the restart, Sevilla looked for a way back into the contest, but Madrid maintained their attacking pressure and continued to threaten. In the 63rd minute, Mbappe scored from the penalty spot after being fouled inside the penalty area, extending Madrid's lead and leaving Sevilla with a difficult task.
Sevilla eventually found the net in the 80th minute as Manu Bueno scored following an assist from Lucas Stassin. Nevertheless, their hopes of mounting a comeback were quickly diminished when Yan Diomande struck from outside the box in the 82nd minute. Aurelien Tchouameni supplied the assist as Madrid restored their three-goal advantage.
Real Madrid enjoyed 65 per cent possession and controlled large portions of the match, combining their dominance of the ball with an effective attacking display. Sevilla found it difficult to stop the hosts from creating chances and were particularly disadvantaged after Mbappe's penalty.
Following the result, Jose Mourinho's team climbed to third place in the LaLiga table, six points behind Barcelona at the top. Sevilla, meanwhile, fell to sixth place after suffering the defeat.
