GEN 0-1 GAL: Super Eagles Superstar Wins Man Of The Match Award After His Superb Display

According to a report by BBC SPORT on Saturday October 17, 2026, Victor Osimhen was instrumental in Galatasaray’s narrow 1-0 victory over Genclerbirligi, as the Nigerian striker led the visitors attacking efforts before a late own goal secured all three points.

Although he did not get his name on the scoresheet, Osimhen remained a constant threat to the opposition’s defence and created several promising opportunities throughout the encounter.

Galatasaray struggled to find a breakthrough during the first half, with Genclerbirligi putting up a determined defensive performance. Osimhen attempted to make an impact early in the game, but his efforts were repeatedly frustrated by the hosts. He had a shot blocked in the 24th minute before being caught offside twice as he attempted to exploit spaces behind the defensive line.

The Nigerian forward continued to lead Galatasaray’s attacking charge as the visitors searched for an opening goal. In the 30th minute, his effort from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by a Genclerbirligi defender. He subsequently connected with a lofted cross in the 39th minute, but his header lacked sufficient power to trouble goalkeeper Irfan Egribayat.

Osimhen also demonstrated his creativity by producing an excellent pass for Leroy Sane in the 45th minute. However, the German winger sent his attempt narrowly wide of the left post, denying Galatasaray a chance to take the lead before the interval.

The second half saw Osimhen continue his search for a goal. In the 60th minute, he rose above the opposition defence to meet a corner kick with a header, but Egribayat comfortably collected the effort. Ten minutes later, the striker received a promising pass inside the penalty area but dragged his shot narrowly wide of the right post.

His persistence kept Genclerbirligi under pressure, and Galatasaray eventually found their breakthrough in the 88th minute when goalkeeper Irfan Egribayat inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Osimhen received a yellow card in stoppage time, but Galatasaray held on to secure the victory. Despite missing several chances, his movement, aerial threat, link-up play and relentless attacking efforts made him a worthy Man of the Match.
