Paul Scholes Names Two Arsenal Stars He Would Sign to Transform Manchester United

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Arsenal's impressive form this season has earned praise from former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, who has picked out two players from Mikel Arteta's squad that he would love to bring to Old Trafford if given the opportunity to rebuild his former club.

The Gunners currently enjoy a three-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table following an impressive win over Liverpool at Anfield. Arteta's side produced a remarkable defensive display, ensuring that the hosts failed to register a single shot on target.

Although the performance may not have been particularly exciting from an attacking perspective, Arsenal's defensive discipline highlighted their ability to compete for the biggest honours. Scholes, who has previously been critical of the north London side, has now recognised the quality and strength within Arteta's squad.

During an appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Football, Scholes was asked to name players from across world football who could make a significant difference to Manchester United. Arsenal defender Gabriel was among the first names he mentioned.

The former United midfielder then considered several other high-profile players, including Jude Bellingham, Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe, before initially choosing England striker Harry Kane. However, he eventually changed his mind and replaced Kane with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

Gabriel has played a crucial role in strengthening Arsenal's defence since joining the club from Lille in 2020. The Brazilian centre-back has continued to deliver consistent performances and remains an important figure, particularly with William Saliba recently missing through injury.

Rice, meanwhile, has developed into one of the Premier League's most influential midfielders. He currently leads the league's assist standings with five, having recently set up Arsenal's winning goal against Liverpool.

Scholes had previously expressed doubts about the £105 million Arsenal paid to sign the midfielder, but he has also acknowledged Rice's outstanding ability. The former England international suggested that Rice could become virtually unplayable if he learned to make quicker decisions and reduce the number of touches he takes on the ball.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag also revealed that he had attempted to bring Rice to Old Trafford before the midfielder ultimately decided to join Arsenal.

Scholes' choices underline the growing quality within Arteta's squad and highlight the difference in the current strength of Arsenal and Manchester United. The Gunners will now turn their attention to their upcoming Champions League encounter against Slavia Prague as they look to maintain their impressive run.
