Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho believes the club's remarkable Premier League record of conceding just 15 goals in a single season is more likely to be broken than Arsenal's historic Invincibles achievement.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Carvalho shared his thoughts on the two memorable accomplishments during an appearance on The Obi One podcast, comparing Chelsea's defensive dominance in the 2004/05 campaign with Arsenal's unbeaten league season in 2003/04.
Chelsea conceded only 15 goals during Jose Mourinho's first season as manager, with Carvalho and John Terry forming a formidable partnership at the heart of the defence.
Arsenal, meanwhile, made history under Arsene Wenger by becoming the first team in the Premier League era to complete a 38-match campaign without suffering defeat. The Gunners finished the season with 26 wins and 12 draws.
When asked which achievement he would have preferred to be part of, Carvalho acknowledged the significance of both records, although his position as a defender made Chelsea's defensive feat particularly special to him.
He explained that keeping the number of goals conceded to just 15 was an outstanding accomplishment, while also recognising that Arsenal deserved enormous credit for going an entire league season without losing a match.
Carvalho also revealed that he thought Arsenal had a genuine opportunity to challenge Chelsea's defensive record last season because of their impressive performances under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners benefited from a strong defensive partnership between William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, while goalkeeper David Raya also played a crucial role in their defensive displays.
However, Arsenal eventually finished the campaign having conceded 27 Premier League goals, falling short of Chelsea's long-standing record.
Carvalho recalled watching John Terry celebrate after realising that Chelsea's benchmark had remained intact, adding that he had initially expected Arsenal to get much closer to the record.
The former Portugal international went on to suggest that Chelsea's record of conceding just 15 goals could eventually be surpassed, although he acknowledged that achieving it would be extremely difficult. In his view, Arsenal's unbeaten Premier League campaign is less likely to be repeated.
Carvalho also reflected on his six-year partnership with Terry at Stamford Bridge, explaining how their different strengths helped them develop into one of the most effective defensive partnerships in Premier League history.
He highlighted Terry's physical strength and aerial dominance, while pointing to his own pace and agility as qualities that complemented the former Chelsea captain and contributed to their success together.
