Chelsea Receive Reece James Injury Concern As Estevao Willian Impresses In Training

Chelsea captain Reece James is a doubt for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Everton after being left out of the club's latest training pictures, while Estevao Willian has offered another reminder of his attacking quality.

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, Xabi Alonso's players returned to training at Cobham following their impressive 5-1 victory over Bournemouth, with several key players preparing for the trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro scored twice, while Morgan Rogers also found the net as Chelsea secured three points. The result moved the Blues to sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with Everton and Brentford.

However, James' fitness remains a concern ahead of the weekend fixture. The defender sustained a knee problem before the Bournemouth match and was subsequently ruled out of the squad.

Alonso confirmed after the victory that the club were monitoring the situation.

"Yeah, he felt something, but after we did the tests later in the afternoon. He had some little issues on the knee, so we need to check how long it will be. We will assess it week by week."

James was not included in the training images released by Chelsea, while winger Jamie Gittens was also absent as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

There was more encouraging news concerning Moises Caicedo, who returned to action against Bournemouth after missing much of the season.

The Ecuador international played 72 minutes before being substituted and was subsequently pictured working in the gym at Cobham.

Cole Palmer and Maxence Lacroix also featured in one of the training images, with the England international seen taking on the defender in a one-on-one drill.

Palmer has contributed four goals and three assists in eight appearances this season, strengthening his position as one of Chelsea's key attacking players.

Rogers and Joao Pedro were also involved in shooting exercises. The pair have made impressive starts to the campaign, combining their goal threat with creativity in the final third.

Meanwhile, Estevao continues to push for a more prominent role under Alonso. The Brazilian winger has appeared in five Premier League matches this season, all as a substitute, but was pictured showcasing his dribbling ability during training.

With Chelsea facing a busy schedule, the 19-year-old could receive more opportunities to establish himself in the starting line-up.
