"It's not in my nature" - Chelsea star Moises Caicedo reveals what every coach wants him to improve

According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 16, 2026, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has revealed that improving his communication on the pitch remains one of the key areas his coaches want him to address, admitting that speaking more frequently during matches does not come naturally to him despite his leadership qualities.

The Ecuadorian international has become an important figure at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the 24-year-old believes he still has room to improve, particularly in his ability to organise teammates and provide instructions during matches.

Speaking to Chelsea's official website, Caicedo explained that several coaches had encouraged him to become more vocal on the pitch because they recognised his leadership potential.

"I think every coach tells me that I can improve talking on the pitch, you know? Because they know that I'm a leader, but it will be better for me if I start talking more with the players. I try my best, but it's not in my nature," he said.

The midfielder acknowledged that communicating verbally remains a challenge but explained that he tries to compensate by demonstrating leadership through his performances, commitment and actions during games.

Caicedo also identified former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as an important example of effective leadership. He praised the Brazilian for supporting his teammates, maintaining high standards and helping others develop within the squad.

The Ecuadorian's comments reflect his desire to become a more complete player by combining his qualities in midfield with stronger communication and greater involvement in organising the team.

Having taken on one of Chelsea's captaincy roles, Caicedo described the responsibility as a significant honour for himself and his family. He is determined to follow the example of previous leaders at the club while establishing his own approach to leadership.

Rather than relying entirely on verbal instructions, the midfielder has often demonstrated his influence through his work rate, determination, tackling and ability to recover possession.

His comments come after an interrupted beginning to the 2026-27 campaign, with injuries limiting his participation during the opening weeks of the season. He subsequently returned to Chelsea's starting line-up against Bournemouth and delivered an impressive performance in the team's reported 5-1 victory.

His return provides encouragement for Chelsea as the club prepares for a demanding period of fixtures.

Upcoming matches against Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester United will test the squad's consistency and depth as the season progresses.

Chelsea will hope Caicedo can maintain his fitness and continue delivering strong performances while developing the communication skills his coaches believe could make him an even more influential leader within the team.
