According to a report by GOAL on Monday, November 2, 2026, Barcelona youngster Brian Farinas has spoken about the significance of making his first-team debut, describing the experience as the realisation of a childhood ambition after helping the Catalan club secure an emphatic 6-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves.
The 20-year-old academy graduate received an unexpected opportunity from Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who selected him in the starting eleven because of the club's ongoing defensive injury problems. Although Farinas usually operates in midfield, he was assigned the right-back position and remained on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes.
Barcelona approached the encounter determined to recover from their disappointing consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Flick was forced to reorganise his defensive options, even using Frenkie de Jong in an unfamiliar left-sided centre-back role to address the shortage of available defenders.
Speaking to the club's official media after the impressive victory, Farinas expressed his excitement about finally representing Barcelona at senior level. The youngster explained that years of dedication and hard work had prepared him for the opportunity to play for the club he has supported throughout his life.
"I'm very happy, very proud of all these years I've spent working. It's every child's dream. Playing in the First Division, with FC Barcelona, the club of my life," he said.
Farinas also discussed his deployment at right-back, explaining that he was prepared to accept any position assigned to him by the manager. His response demonstrated his willingness to contribute wherever the team needed him.
"I play wherever he puts me," Farinas added.
The youngster acknowledged experiencing some nervousness at the beginning of the match but explained that his confidence improved as he became more involved in the game.
"As you get into the game, I think I'm a player with quite a strong personality. I felt comfortable, to be honest," he explained.
He also appreciated the support received from his teammates, particularly Pau Cubarsi, Rodri, Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal, who helped him adjust to the demands of senior football. "They helped me a lot," he said.
Meanwhile, Barcelona could require his services again as defensive injuries continue to affect the squad ahead of their Champions League meeting with Aston Villa. With several defenders reportedly unavailable, Farinas may receive another opportunity to impress Flick and strengthen his position within the first team.
The debut represents an important milestone in his career, and he will now hope to maintain his progress at Barcelona.
