According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Galatasaray secured their first Champions League victory of the campaign after defeating Lille 4-2 away, with Victor Osimhen scoring his first goal in the competition during an impressive European performance.
Yunus Akgun gave Galatasaray an early advantage in the second minute, reacting quickest to a rebound and finishing from close range. Lille responded through Soriba Diaoune, who equalised in the seventh minute.
Lille turned the contest around when Diaoune struck again in the 39th minute, finishing Hakon Arnar Haraldsson’s pass. However, Galatasaray restored parity before halftime, with Alexey Batrakov heading home Roland Sallai’s cross in the 44th minute.
The visitors regained control after the break when Lille goalkeeper Berke Ozer scored an own goal in the 52nd minute. Galatasaray then extended their advantage through Osimhen, who finished Baris Yilmaz’s pass with a first-time strike in the 61st minute.
Osimhen’s goal proved particularly significant, marking his first Champions League goal. Although another effort was disallowed for offside in the 69th minute, Galatasaray maintained their two-goal advantage and successfully managed Lille’s late attempts to recover.
Ugurcan Cakir also played an important role, producing a superb save to deny Diaoune’s header in the 24th minute. His handling of Lille’s later attacks helped Galatasaray protect their advantage until the final whistle.
