Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has won the Player of the Match award after inspiring Galatasaray to a 4-2 victory over Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Nigerian international delivered a standout performance against his former club, scoring a crucial goal as the Turkish champions secured their first victory of this season’s Champions League campaign at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in France.

Galatasaray made an impressive start, with Yunus Akgün opening the scoring in the second minute.

However, Lille fought back through Soriba Diaoune, who scored twice to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Aleksey Batrakov restored parity for the visitors just before half-time to level the contest at 2-2.

Lucas Torreira put the Turkish side ahead in the 52nd minute before Osimhen extended their advantage in the 61st minute.

The 27-year-old fired past goalkeeper Berke Özer after a quick move involving Barış Alper Yılmaz to seal Galatasaray’s 4-2 victory.

Osimhen showed respect for his former club by declining to celebrate after scoring. He also received a warm reception from Lille supporters when he was substituted late in the encounter.

His goal and overall contribution helped Galatasaray end their difficult start to the Champions League campaign after defeats in their opening two matches.

The Player of the Match recognition further highlights Osimhen’s influence on the contest, as he continues to play a key role for the Turkish giants in European competition.

Galatasaray will now aim to build on the important victory as they pursue qualification for the Champions League knockout stage.
