Dani Olmo Set for Four-Week Layoff After Injury Against PSG

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Barcelona have suffered a significant injury setback, with midfielder Dani Olmo expected to spend around four weeks on the sidelines after sustaining an adductor tear during the club’s UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spain international was forced off during the first half of Barcelona’s 4-2 defeat to PSG at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night after suffering an injury in an incident involving the French side’s midfielder Vitinha.

According to SPORT journalist Carlos Monfort, medical tests have revealed an impact-related tear to Olmo’s adductor, with an estimated recovery period of approximately four weeks. Barcelona are yet to release an official medical statement confirming the full extent of the injury and his expected return date.

The incident occurred around the 26th minute when Vitinha accidentally stood on Olmo, who landed awkwardly on his leg and immediately showed signs of discomfort. Despite initially attempting to assess whether he could continue, the midfielder was eventually unable to carry on, forcing Barcelona manager Hansi Flick to introduce Fermin Lopez as his replacement.

Olmo’s injury represents a frustrating setback for both the player and the Catalan club, particularly as he had recently begun to rediscover his form. The midfielder had ended his goal drought and was showing signs of regaining the confidence and attacking influence that make him an important part of Barcelona’s setup.

His ability to arrive late in the penalty area, link up with teammates and contribute goals from midfield has provided Flick with an additional attacking option. His absence could therefore force the Barcelona manager to reconsider his selection and tactical approach during a demanding period of the campaign.

One of the most immediate consequences is Olmo’s expected absence from Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid. The meeting carries significant importance in the La Liga title race, and Barcelona will now have to prepare for the contest without a midfielder who could have played a key role in their attacking plans.

Flick will need to consider alternative options in midfield, with Fermin Lopez among the players capable of stepping into a more prominent role. However, replacing Olmo’s particular qualities will not be straightforward, especially against opponents capable of exploiting spaces in midfield.

The situation is made more challenging by Barcelona’s existing injury concerns. Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde have also been dealing with fitness problems, placing additional pressure on Flick to manage his available squad carefully as the fixtures continue to arrive.

While a four-week absence would represent a considerable blow, Barcelona will be keen to ensure that Olmo receives sufficient time to recover rather than risk aggravating the injury by returning too early.

For now, the club will monitor his progress before determining when he can resume training and return to competitive action. If the reported recovery timeline proves accurate, Olmo could miss several important fixtures across domestic and European competitions.
