According to a report by Metro on Sunday October 25, 2026, Manchester United stand-in captain Harry Maguire has admitted that something must change quickly at Old Trafford following the club's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
The Red Devils suffered another damaging result on Sunday, October 25, extending their winless run to eight games across all competitions and increasing the pressure on head coach Michael Carrick.
United have reportedly managed just one victory in their opening eight Premier League matches, leaving them 16th in the table and raising fresh questions about the direction of the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the Bournemouth defeat, Maguire admitted that the team's performances have not been good enough and called on his teammates to take responsibility.
“Results haven’t been good enough, performances haven’t been good enough,” he said.
“Individually we’ve got to look at ourselves and find something within ourselves to bring more to the team. That’s every player.”
Despite the difficult situation, Maguire believes United can still turn their season around, but insists that improvements must come quickly.
“We can still have a good season but something has got to change quick. It’s been a disappointing start, no doubt about that,” he added.
Maguire also made it clear that the players remain behind Carrick, despite growing speculation over the manager's future.
Asked whether he hoped the necessary changes would not involve replacing the head coach, the defender replied: “Of course, we’re fully behind Michael.”
He also highlighted Carrick's previous success as interim manager, when United finished third and secured Champions League qualification.
However, the latest defeat has intensified scrutiny of Carrick, who has struggled to deliver consistent results this season. The manager himself admitted that several factors have contributed to the team's difficulties.
United's problems have also been accompanied by reports of tensions involving senior players, including Bruno Fernandes, who was left on the bench throughout the Bournemouth match after reportedly criticising the coaching staff.
For Maguire, the immediate priority is for every player to improve and help the team escape its difficult spell.
