According to a report by ESPN on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Nigeria's Super Falcons will face Morocco in the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games, setting up another highly anticipated encounter between two of the continent's strongest women's national teams.
The upcoming fixture represents an important challenge for Nigeria as they continue their pursuit of a place at the Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
The Super Falcons secured qualification for the third round after recording an impressive 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros in their previous qualifying encounter.
Nigeria won the opening leg 2-0 before producing an outstanding attacking performance in the return fixture, defeating their opponents 5-0 to complete a comfortable passage into the next stage.
Meanwhile, Morocco progressed without playing their second-round matches following the withdrawal of Congo from the competition.
MATCH PREVIEW
The encounter promises to be competitive, considering the recent history between both countries in African women's football.
Nigeria will enter the contest hoping to maintain their impressive record against the Atlas Lionesses while moving another step closer to Olympic qualification.
However, Morocco have demonstrated considerable improvement in recent years and possess enough quality to challenge the Nigerian side.
The North African team will also be determined to secure a positive result after suffering a disappointing defeat against Nigeria in their previous major encounter.
MATCH DATE AND KICK-OFF TIME
According to the official qualifying schedule released by CAF, the third-round matches will take place between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
Nigeria and Morocco will compete over two legs, with each country hosting one encounter.
The team that records the better aggregate result will progress to the fourth round of the qualifying competition.
However, the exact dates, stadiums and kick-off times for both matches have not yet been officially announced.
HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD
The Super Falcons and Morocco have produced several memorable encounters in recent continental competitions.
During the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco eliminated Nigeria in the semi-finals after winning 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
However, Nigeria responded during the final of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which was played in July 2025.
The Super Falcons overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Morocco 3-2, securing their historic tenth continental championship.
Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Joe Echegini played important roles in Nigeria's remarkable comeback victory.
That result could provide additional motivation for the Nigerian players ahead of their upcoming Olympic qualifying assignment.
WHAT IS AT STAKE?
Both countries understand the importance of progressing beyond the third round, particularly because Africa has only two qualification places available for the women's football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games.
The winner of the Nigeria-Morocco encounter will advance to the fourth round, where another difficult challenge awaits.
For the Super Falcons, overcoming Morocco would strengthen their hopes of making another Olympic appearance following their participation in Paris in 2024.
Nevertheless, Nigeria must produce convincing performances across both matches to overcome an ambitious Moroccan side determined to secure its own place at the international competition.
With their recent meetings producing dramatic moments, another exciting contest could be expected when the two African rivals renew their rivalry in 2027.
