According to a report by London Evening Standard on Wednesday October 21, 2026, with a devastating knee injury that could sideline him for nine to twelve months, winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain has spoken out about his disappointment.
The Georgian international is set to have surgery soon after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Tuesday's 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain.
The French champions are continuing their quest for another European title, but the injury is a major setback. Kvaratskhelia was substituted just before the hour mark due to a twisted knee he sustained while pursuing Xavi Espart of Barcelona.
The 25-year-old needed help from the medical team because he couldn't put any weight on his right leg. Surgery will soon be scheduled, as confirmed by subsequent examinations, according to PSG.
In his social media response to the unfortunate news, Kvaratskhelia stated that he was perplexed as to why this had happened to him.
The winger boasted about how well he had trained for the match against Barcelona and how confident he felt about facing whatever came his way. Additionally, he admitted that despite his regular prayers for protection before matches, he still managed to suffer the injury.
Kvaratskhelia thanked his fans for their unwavering support and pledged to return stronger after the challenging rehabilitation period. Their messages meant a lot to him, and he promised to take full advantage of his recovery.
Not only did the Georgian hurt himself, but so did other PSG players. It is anticipated that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos will only be out for a few weeks due to their injuries, although they did sustain injuries.
The three injuries were the most disheartening part of the match, according to PSG manager Luis Enrique, who emphasized the need to wait for medical examinations.
Kvaratskhelia has scored 29 goals in 91 appearances for PSG since his arrival from Napoli in January 2025, when he arrived for around £59 million.
After beating Manchester City and Barcelona in the Champions League, PSG are still undefeated despite the injury setback. Additionally, after seven matches, they are tied for second place in Ligue 1, one point behind Lyon.
