Liverpool Increasingly Likely to Pay €55 million For Ronald Araujo As Barcelona Loanee Impresses

According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday October 23, 2026, Liverpool are increasingly likely to sign Ronald Araujo permanently from Barcelona if the Uruguayan defender maintains his impressive performances during his season-long loan spell at Anfield under manager Andoni Iraola.

According to reports, the agreement includes a €55 million purchase option, allowing Liverpool to secure the defender permanently next summer if his performances convince the club's decision-makers.

Araujo has adapted quickly to English football, strengthening the possibility of remaining at Liverpool beyond his current loan spell. His versatility and consistent contributions have impressed the coaching staff.

The Barcelona defender has made an encouraging start under Iraola after being deployed at right-back instead of his preferred centre-back position, demonstrating his ability to perform different defensive responsibilities.

His physical strength, defensive aggression and attacking contributions have helped him settle into the unfamiliar role, including scoring during Liverpool's recent Champions League victory against Villarreal.

Iraola has praised Araujo's experience and versatility, recognising the importance of having a defender capable of performing in different positions when required throughout the demanding campaign.

“Ronald needed this change and has arrived with humility. He is an experienced player from a big club who is ready to play in different positions,” the Liverpool manager said.

That flexibility could become an important factor when Liverpool decide whether to activate the €55 million clause included in their agreement with Barcelona next summer.

Araujo has expressed satisfaction with his new surroundings after struggling to secure regular playing time at Barcelona. His Liverpool spell has provided opportunities to demonstrate his abilities consistently.

“I think I am finding what I needed here, which was to play, feel important and show my football. It is very early to talk about these things,” Araujo explained.

He added that receiving regular minutes was his priority, suggesting he wants to concentrate on performances before making decisions about his long-term future with either club.

Liverpool will continue assessing his consistency throughout the season before committing a substantial transfer fee. His adaptability and defensive contributions could influence their final decision significantly.

Barcelona could receive €55 million if Liverpool activate the purchase option, potentially providing funds to strengthen their defensive department next summer and improve their recruitment options.

The Catalan club could consider reinvesting the money in an experienced defender to complement their relatively young back line, although Liverpool's decision remains dependent on Araujo's performances and overall value.
