According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday October 30, 2026, Manchester United have received an encouraging indication in their pursuit of Swedish wonderkid Oliver Mansson, with the IFK Goteborg midfielder admitting that playing for the Premier League giants would fulfil a lifelong ambition as interest in his signature continues to grow.
The 17-year-old has emerged as one of Sweden's most exciting young talents after breaking into Goteborg's senior squad earlier this year. His impressive performances have established him as a regular starter, attracting attention from several prominent European clubs.
Goteborg's results have improved considerably since Mansson became a regular first-team player in July. The Swedish side have suffered just two defeats in the 13 Allsvenskan matches he has started, highlighting his growing importance to the team.
Their impressive run included five consecutive victories between late August and early October. Although Goteborg have drawn their subsequent three matches, Mansson's individual development continues to attract significant attention from potential suitors.
Arsenal and Chelsea were among the earliest clubs linked with the teenager, but competition has intensified. Manchester United and Italian side Roma have reportedly joined the growing list of clubs monitoring his performances, alongside several teams from Germany and England.
Speaking to Swedish publication Sportbladet, Mansson acknowledged the growing interest and explained how it had affected his confidence while remaining committed to his current responsibilities.
“It's really great that the clubs are here. If they're watching me, that's proof to me that I've done well,” the youngster explained, expressing satisfaction with the attention his performances have generated.
He also admitted that representing Manchester United or Roma would be a dream, despite previously supporting Barcelona while growing up. However, he stressed that his immediate priority remains performing consistently for Goteborg.
Meanwhile, Goteborg's director of football, Jesper Jansson, believes Mansson could become the club's most expensive departure, surpassing the €7 million received from Brighton for Malick Yalcouye in 2024.
Jansson praised the youngster's intelligence, playing style and consistency, comparing his potential to former Swedish prospect Williot Swedberg. He believes Mansson possesses exceptional qualities rarely seen in Swedish football.
Although Goteborg have not received any concrete approaches, growing interest suggests that a major transfer could eventually materialise. Manchester United will need to assess their options carefully if they decide to pursue the highly rated midfielder.
With his reputation continuing to rise, Mansson could command a record-breaking fee for Goteborg. His admiration for Manchester United adds another intriguing dimension to the developing transfer story, although no agreement has been reached.
