Barcelona set their sights on €65m-rated Aston Villa star but face competition from Bayern Munich

According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Barcelona are keeping tabs on Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as they consider potential reinforcements for next summer, although Bayern Munich could provide competition for his signature.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly assessing several midfield options as the Catalan club plans for the future, with the 21-year-old Switzerland international attracting attention following his recent performances.

Manzambi has reportedly made an impressive start to the season, recording three goals and three assists in six appearances. His contributions have strengthened his reputation as a promising young midfielder and placed him on the radar of several prominent European clubs.

English journalist Graeme Bailey, quoted by MARCA, revealed that scouts from a number of leading teams have been impressed by the youngster’s performances, with some believing he possesses the potential to become a major star in European football.

However, Barcelona could face a difficult battle if they decide to pursue his signature. Bayern Munich have reportedly monitored Manzambi since his time at Freiburg, meaning the Bundesliga giants could compete with the Spanish club for his services.

Aston Villa’s reported €60 million investment in the midfielder could further complicate negotiations. The Premier League side may be reluctant to consider his departure so soon after bringing him into their project, particularly if he continues to impress under manager Unai Emery.

Meanwhile, Transfermarkt values Manzambi at approximately €65 million, although his market valuation should not be confused with Aston Villa’s potential asking price. The English club could demand a different fee depending on his importance to the squad and the level of interest from other teams.

Barcelona’s financial circumstances could also play a decisive role in determining whether they can turn their interest into a concrete offer. Any potential deal may depend on the club’s available transfer budget and whether players currently in the squad leave during the coming windows.

A move in January is considered unlikely, as Manzambi is reportedly content with his situation at Aston Villa and wants to continue developing under Emery. Remaining in England for the rest of the campaign could allow him to gain further experience before considering his next career move.

Consequently, next summer appears to be a more realistic timeframe for any potential transfer. Barcelona will need to assess their midfield requirements and financial position, while Bayern Munich’s reported interest could make the competition for Manzambi’s signature more complicated.
