According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 18, 2026, former Barcelona midfielder and coach Eusebio Sacristán has offered advice to young striker Hamza Abdelkarim, urging the Egyptian youngster to remain patient as he continues his development at the Catalan club.
The 18-year-old recently returned to Barça Atlètic after receiving opportunities to train and be involved with Hansi Flick’s first team. However, he was left out of Barcelona’s squad for their 5-2 victory over Real Betis following Raphinha’s return to fitness.
Instead, Hamza featured for the reserve side in their Segunda Federación clash against Utebo, where he found the back of the net and demonstrated his quality in front of goal.
Speaking to Erem News, as reported by Diario SPORT, Eusebio explained why playing for the reserve team could prove beneficial for the youngster’s long-term progress.
“Playing with the reserve team will be another important stage in his growth as a player,” the former Barcelona midfielder said.
Eusebio also highlighted the benefits of Hamza’s continued exposure to Flick’s senior squad, where training alongside experienced professionals can help him learn and improve. However, he stressed the importance of gaining regular competitive minutes rather than relying solely on first-team training sessions.
The advice comes at a crucial stage in Hamza’s career, as the teenager looks to establish himself at Barcelona after attracting attention with his performances and involvement around the senior team.
At his age, consistent playing time could be more valuable than regularly being named among the first-team substitutes. Matches with Barça Atlètic will allow him to develop his movement, decision-making and finishing while adapting to the demands of senior football.
Barcelona must therefore find the right balance between giving Hamza opportunities with the first team and ensuring he receives enough minutes to continue his development.
Although returning to the reserve side may appear to be a setback, his goal against Utebo offered an encouraging reminder of his potential. The important thing now is to maintain his progress and take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.
Hamza still has considerable room to grow, and Barcelona will be keen to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on the young striker. With patience, regular football and continued guidance from Flick and the coaching staff, he will hope to earn further opportunities with the senior team.
