Chelsea predicted XI vs Liverpool as Estevao earns starting spot and Caicedo decision emerges

Chelsea are expected to make several changes for their Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool, with Estevao Willian in line for a starting place under Xabi Alonso.

According to a report by Football London on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, Alonso could rotate his squad for Wednesday's fourth-round encounter at Anfield, with injuries and suspensions affecting his selection options.

Estevao is expected to benefit from Cole Palmer's suspension, giving the Brazilian youngster an opportunity to impress after featuring in the previous round against lower-league opposition on September 9.

The teenager is pushing for more regular involvement and could operate alongside Morgan Rogers in attacking midfield, with Danny Welbeck expected to lead the line in the absence of Joao Pedro.

Alonso confirmed on Tuesday that the Brazilian forward would miss the match because of a thigh injury. The Chelsea manager acknowledged his importance but insisted that the squad must find solutions.

Chelsea are also expected to make defensive adjustments, with Wesley Fofana potentially returning to the starting XI.

The defender could partner Maxence Lacroix and Levi Colwill in a three-man backline, while Josh Acheampong may be rested ahead of Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United.

Mike Penders is tipped to continue in goal, with Emi Martinez still unavailable following surgery on his fractured jaw.

Marco Palestra could make his first competitive start since joining Chelsea in the summer, while Jorrel Hato is expected to retain his place on the opposite flank amid concerns surrounding Pep Chavarria's availability.

In midfield, Romeo Lavia could return to the starting lineup after his recent absence. However, Moises Caicedo may still be required despite having only recently returned to action.

Although Caicedo could benefit from a rest, Chelsea's dependence on the midfielder could make it difficult for Alonso to leave him out of such an important fixture.

The predicted line-ups differ slightly, particularly in midfield, but both journalists agree that Estevao should start in attack. Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha are also potential options for additional minutes.

Chelsea will be looking to respond positively after their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, making the cup tie an important opportunity for Alonso's players to regain momentum.
