Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh has recounted how he met his Moroccan wife, Hafida, more than 30 years ago, revealing how a chance encounter at a music shop led to their lasting relationship.
According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Oliseh shared the story during a recent interview on The Play Zone podcast, where he reflected on how he met his wife in 1994.
The former Nigerian midfielder explained that he was shopping for a music CD in Tong, about 30 minutes from his residence, during the summer when he noticed Hafida entering the shop.
According to Oliseh, heavy rainfall had disrupted her bicycle ride, forcing her to seek shelter inside the music store, where she began browsing through the available music.
Oliseh said he was immediately attracted to her beauty and decided to approach her with a compliment.
“The Moroccan woman I married then was about the best option I had then. I go buy CD for Tong that is 30 minutes away from my place, it was during the summer,” he said.
Recalling the moment he first saw Hafida, the former Super Eagles coach explained that he was determined to speak to her rather than allow the opportunity to pass.
“Then I saw her, and I said to myself that this one can’t go. Then I said to her how come you’re this beautiful?” he recalled.
What began as a simple conversation eventually developed into a relationship that has lasted for more than three decades.
Oliseh and Hafida have been together since 1994 and have two children, Denzel and Shanice. Their relationship has continued through different stages of the former footballer’s career, from his playing days in Europe to his subsequent roles in coaching and football analysis.
During his professional career, Oliseh played for several European clubs, including Ajax, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund. He also captained the Nigerian national team and later served as head coach of the Super Eagles.
