EPL Table Ahead This Weekend Matches

According to a report by BBC Sports on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the race for the English Premier League title is gathering momentum as teams prepare for another exciting weekend of football, with important points at stake across the standings.

Manchester City currently lead the Premier League table after eight matches, but Arsenal remain firmly in contention as both clubs continue their impressive starts to the 2026/27 campaign.

City have accumulated 21 points from their opening eight fixtures, recording seven wins and suffering just one defeat. Their goal difference of +11 gives them a slight advantage over Arsenal, who have collected an identical number of points.

The Gunners occupy second position with 21 points and a goal difference of +8. Having also registered seven victories and one loss, Arsenal will be hoping to move above Manchester City when the next round of fixtures gets underway.

Brighton sit third in the standings with 16 points, following five wins, one draw and two defeats. Liverpool are fourth with 15 points, while Chelsea occupy fifth position after collecting 13 points from eight matches.

Brentford currently hold sixth place with 11 points, while Leeds United are seventh with the same total. Newcastle United follow in eighth position with 11 points, ahead of Aston Villa, who are ninth with an identical tally.

Hull City complete the top half of the Premier League standings in tenth position with 10 points.

Everton occupy 11th place with 10 points, while Ipswich Town are 12th, also having accumulated 10 points from their opening eight matches.

Bournemouth are positioned 13th with nine points, while Tottenham Hotspur sit 14th with the same number of points.

Fulham occupy 15th position with eight points, just one point ahead of Manchester United, who are experiencing a challenging beginning to the league campaign.

The Red Devils currently sit 16th with seven points after recording one victory, four draws and three defeats in their opening eight matches.

Crystal Palace are 17th with seven points, while Nottingham Forest find themselves in the relegation zone in 18th position with six points.

Coventry City occupy 19th place with six points, leaving Sunderland at the bottom of the Premier League table with five points.

Meanwhile, attention is shifting towards Matchweek Nine, which promises several important encounters involving clubs competing for the title, European qualification and Premier League survival.

One of the standout fixtures will take place on Saturday, October 31, when Chelsea welcome Manchester United in a crucial encounter.

Chelsea will be aiming to strengthen their position among the leading clubs, while Manchester United desperately need a positive result to improve their standing following a disappointing opening eight matches.

Manchester City will also face Brighton in a potentially difficult contest, with the league leaders hoping to maintain their advantage over Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur are scheduled to meet Crystal Palace in another important fixture, with both teams looking to improve their positions.

However, one of the biggest matches of the weekend will take place on Sunday, November 1, when Liverpool face Arsenal.

The encounter could have a major influence on the title race, particularly with Arsenal currently level on points with Manchester City.

With only goal difference separating the two leading clubs, any dropped points could result in changes at the summit of the Premier League standings.

Similarly, teams struggling near the relegation zone will be determined to secure positive results as the competition enters another important stage of the season.

The upcoming fixtures could therefore bring significant movement across the Premier League table, from the battle for first position to the fight for survival.
