According to a report by footballTransfers on Thursday October 29, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly considering a major offer for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López, reviving their interest after failing to secure his signature in 2025. However, despite the renewed speculation, a move in January appears unlikely.
López has established himself as an important member of Hansi Flick’s first-team squad. The 23-year-old has contributed to nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions this season, attracting attention from several leading European clubs.
His long-term contract, which runs until 2031, further strengthens Barcelona’s position in any negotiations.
According to The Daily Briefing, Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a “serious offer” worth around €80 million. Chelsea, meanwhile, are said to be considering a “massive bid.”
Arsenal and Manchester United have also reportedly made enquiries about the Spain international in recent months.
López is estimated to be worth €116.5 million, although that figure does not necessarily reflect the amount Barcelona would accept.
Reports suggest the midfielder is not currently considering a departure from Camp Nou. Nevertheless, the club could be tempted to discuss a sale if a substantial offer arrives.
López is believed to feature on Chelsea’s list of potential signings, but he is not their priority target. A January transfer would also be complicated by Barcelona’s reluctance to lose a key player midway through the season, particularly while they are pursuing success in the Champions League.
Instead, Chelsea are expected to focus on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The Blues reportedly failed to sign the England international during the summer and are now considering a formal approach.
Scott has been identified as a major target for 2027, though Liverpool are also monitoring his progress.
Bournemouth are understood to value Scott at around €120 million, meaning any deal could require a significant investment.
Chelsea may therefore face a choice between pursuing López, whose preference is reportedly to remain at Barcelona, and prioritising a move for Scott.
For now, the Catalan midfielder’s future remains uncertain, but a switch to Stamford Bridge is far from guaranteed.
