According to a report by London Evening Standard on Sunday October 25, 2026, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been dropped to the bench for the Premier League clash against Bournemouth following his public criticism of manager Michael Carrick.
The decision comes after United suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in midweek, extending their winless run to seven consecutive matches across all competitions.
Fernandes questioned the team's tactics after Wednesday's Champions League loss, increasing the pressure on Carrick ahead of Sunday's encounter at Old Trafford. The United manager subsequently apologised to supporters and admitted that the club had lost its way, although he insisted he remained confident of turning things around.
United are desperate to return to winning ways as they prepare to welcome Bournemouth. The Red Devils have struggled for consistency this season and will be looking to secure only their second Premier League victory of the campaign.
Carrick has also received a boost with Leny Yoro becoming available again after serving his European suspension. The French defender is expected to return to the starting lineup alongside Harry Maguire in central defence, potentially replacing Matthijs de Ligt after his difficult performance against Como.
Joshua Zirkzee could also be handed a rare league start following his consolation goal against the Italian side. The striker is in contention to replace Matheus Cunha, who was substituted at half-time after an ineffective first-half display in midweek.
Meanwhile, Ayden Heaven is available again after recovering from illness. However, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford remain unavailable as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
Kobbie Mainoo is also expected to miss another week while recovering from a knock. Luke Shaw, Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton remain sidelined, leaving Carrick with several selection challenges as United attempt to halt their disappointing run.
With Fernandes starting on the bench and Yoro potentially returning to the defence, United will hope the changes can deliver a much-needed response against Bournemouth.
Manchester United Confirmed Starting Lineup: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Mazraoui; Baleba, Tielemans; Mbeumo, Cunha, Amad; Zirkzee.
