BBC Sport reported on Sunday, October 18, 2026, that Brighton secured an impressive 5-0 win against Crystal Palace after producing a commanding performance in their Premier League meeting.
The Seagulls scored three times during the opening 10 minutes and added two further goals in the second half to complete a resounding victory over their rivals.
Brighton took the lead in the fourth minute when Jaydee Canvot inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net. The home side quickly built on that advantage as Diego Gomez made it 2-0 in the seventh minute, finishing a well-delivered pass with a powerful long-range strike that beat goalkeeper Walter Benitez.
The hosts increased their lead three minutes later through Yasin Ayari. After receiving the ball from Charalampos Kostoulas, the midfielder unleashed a shot from inside the box. A deflection altered the ball's direction, preventing Benitez from making the save and putting Crystal Palace further behind.
Brighton's attacking pressure proved difficult for Crystal Palace to withstand during the first half. The visitors struggled to establish themselves in the match, although they created an opportunity in the 12th minute. However, Bart Verbruggen made a superb save to keep out Anan Khalaili's attempt from the edge of the penalty area. Brighton maintained their superiority and headed into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The Seagulls resumed the second half with the same attacking determination and scored again in the 49th minute. Kostoulas showed good awareness by reacting to a rebound inside the penalty area before guiding the ball into the bottom-left corner to extend Brighton's advantage to four goals.
Crystal Palace tried to find a way back into the contest, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Mateta came close in the 63rd minute when his close-range attempt hit the crossbar. Lerma then threatened in the 74th minute, but his header struck the left-hand post instead of finding the net.
Brighton completed their impressive performance with an 84th-minute goal from Hinshelwood. The midfielder reacted quickest to a loose ball following a rebound inside the box and struck it into the top of the net, making the score 5-0.
Despite making late efforts to get on the scoresheet, Crystal Palace could not find a consolation goal. Brighton remained defensively solid until the final whistle, sealing a convincing five-goal victory.
