Man United head coach Carrick provides honest response when asked about his future at the club

According to a report by Metro on Sunday October 25, 2026, Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has admitted that he does not know what lies ahead for him at Old Trafford following the club’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Red Devils suffered another setback on Sunday as goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson condemned them to a damaging home loss.

The result extended Manchester United’s winless run to eight matches in all competitions, increasing the pressure on Carrick as questions continue to emerge about his future.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Englishman acknowledged the difficult situation facing him and admitted that he was uncertain about what would happen next.

“It’s a tough situation. There’s no hiding from it. What it looks like, what’s next, I really don’t know. But I’ll always do what’s best for this football club,” Carrick said.

He also reiterated his commitment to Manchester United, insisting that he remained passionate about his role despite the growing scrutiny.

“I’ve said it all along, and I don’t change that now. I love what I do. I love the position I’m in. I feel the responsibility. But we’ll have to wait and see,” he added.

Carrick’s comments came after another frustrating afternoon for United, who were two goals behind by half-time following strikes from Rayan and Tavernier.

Evanilson then added a third in the 71st minute to seal Bournemouth’s victory and leave the home supporters disappointed.

According to the report, Manchester United have won only two of their first 12 matches this season and sit 16th in the Premier League table.

The poor run of results has intensified scrutiny of Carrick, with reports suggesting that the club’s hierarchy is assessing the team’s performances while considering possible alternatives.

Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann, Antonio Conte and Unai Emery have been mentioned among the managers linked with the position. However, Manchester United have not publicly announced any decision regarding Carrick’s future, and the reported links do not confirm that a replacement has been selected.

The head coach had expressed confidence in his ability to turn the situation around before the Bournemouth match, but the latest defeat has raised further questions about whether he can restore consistency to the team.

Carrick took charge in January following Ruben Amorim’s departure and enjoyed an impressive spell that reportedly included 11 victories in 16 league matches. He guided United to third place and helped secure their return to the Champions League before being appointed permanently in May.

However, the contrast between those results and the club’s current struggles has placed his position under increasing pressure.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, who wore the armband against Bournemouth with Bruno Fernandes left on the bench, defended Carrick after the final whistle and urged his teammates to accept responsibility for their performances.

“Michael turned our season on its head last year, and we played brilliant football and got brilliant results,” Maguire said.
