According to a post by football presenter Mark Goldbridge on X on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Manchester United supporters should speak out against director of football Jason Wilcox as reports linking Eddie Howe with the club’s managerial vacancy continue to attract attention.
Goldbridge’s comments came amid growing uncertainty surrounding United’s leadership following another disappointing result.
The club suffered a 3–0 home defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, adding to the pressure on head coach Michael Carrick and raising further questions about the direction of the team.
The presenter believes the reported interest in Howe makes it important for supporters to express their views before the club makes another major decision.
“British media all over this push Howe for United manager. Now is the time to be vocal about ending this Wilcox DOF reign of terror,” Goldbridge wrote.
His criticism centres on Wilcox’s influence over football operations and the possibility that he could have a leading role in choosing United’s next manager if the club decides to part ways with Carrick.
A report published by The Guardian on October 23 identified Howe as Wilcox’s preferred candidate should United make a managerial change.
The former Newcastle United manager left the club in July and has been taking a break from football, but reports suggest he would consider returning for the Old Trafford position.
However, United have not officially confirmed Howe’s appointment, and the reported preference should not be mistaken for a completed agreement.
The situation has become increasingly uncomfortable for Carrick following United’s struggles on the pitch.
Their 3–0 loss to Bournemouth has intensified scrutiny of the coaching staff, recruitment decisions and the executives responsible for the club’s football strategy.
Goldbridge’s latest statement reflects his concern that changing managers without addressing wider leadership questions could leave United facing similar problems again.
For supporters, the central issue is now not simply whether Carrick will remain in charge, but also who should determine the club’s next move.
With Howe emerging as a reported option, Wilcox’s role in any potential appointment is likely to remain a subject of debate among United fans.
