Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has entertained football fans with a hilarious response about his wife after former England international Micah Richards complimented his muscular physique following the club’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Roma.
According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Brazilian striker made the remark during a post-match appearance on CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League Today programme.
During the interview, Richards noticed Cunha’s physical appearance and jokingly commented on his commitment to working out at the gym.
“You’ve been going to the gym,” Richards told the Manchester United forward.
Cunha responded with a smile, saying, “Yeah, thank you. My wife needs me to be BIGGER.”
His unexpected response brought a humorous moment to the post-match discussion, as the footballer playfully suggested that his wife’s expectations were behind his efforts to build more muscle.
The exchange came after an impressive performance from Cunha, who scored twice to help Manchester United recover from a two-goal deficit against Roma at Old Trafford.
United had initially fallen 2-0 behind before Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty to reduce the deficit.
Cunha subsequently scored twice in quick succession, completing the comeback and securing a 3-2 victory for the English side.
His performance made him one of the major talking points after the encounter, but his exchange with Richards provided another memorable moment away from the action on the pitch.
The Brazilian’s playful comment has added a lighter side to a night in which his goals played a decisive role in Manchester United’s comeback.
