According to a report by Football London on Friday November 6, 2026, Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has officially announced his retirement from professional football at 38, bringing an end to an impressive career spanning several countries, competitions and memorable international achievements.
The Colombian shot-stopper confirmed his decision on Wednesday while registered with Mexican club Atlante, sharing an emotional message expressing gratitude for everything football had given him throughout his remarkable playing journey.
Ospina spent four years representing Arsenal between 2014 and 2018, arriving from Nice before moving to Napoli, where he continued his career until 2022 before departing for Saudi Arabia.
Following his departure from Napoli, the experienced goalkeeper joined Al-Nassr in 2022, remaining with the Saudi Arabian side until 2024. His professional journey also included six successful seasons with French club Nice.
During his Arsenal spell, Ospina contributed to the club's domestic cup campaigns, although he frequently occupied the second-choice position behind Petr Cech, limiting his opportunities to establish himself as their regular goalkeeper.
The Colombian international accumulated more than 600 appearances throughout his professional career, including 131 matches representing his country. That remarkable international record makes him Colombia's most-capped footballer, alongside James Rodriguez.
Announcing his retirement through social media, Ospina thanked football for providing an unforgettable journey, explaining that although he was stepping away from playing, his appreciation for the sport would never disappear.
His message read: "I say to football, thank you! I will not give it up… but I am grateful! It has been a wonderful journey! From now on, I will go wherever my smile takes me."
Ospina's retirement closes an important chapter in Colombian football history, particularly considering his remarkable international longevity. His achievements with Arsenal, Napoli, Nice and Al-Nassr will remain significant throughout his career.
