According to a report BBC on October 18, 2026, Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martínez could miss several important matches after suffering a jaw injury during the club’s 2-0 victory over Everton on October 17. The Argentine goalkeeper reportedly underwent surgery following the incident, with reports suggesting that he could be sidelined for around 40 days.
The injury represents a potential setback for Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso, who may have to rely on alternative goalkeeping options while Martínez recovers. However, the exact duration of his absence has not been officially confirmed, meaning his return will depend on his recovery and the club’s medical assessment.
If the reported 40-day recovery period proves accurate, Martínez could miss six scheduled Chelsea matches across the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
Chelsea’s first match during this period is their Premier League home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on October 24. The Blues will then travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round on October 28.
Three days later, Chelsea are scheduled to host Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in another important Premier League encounter.
The Blues will subsequently travel to face Sunderland on November 8 before returning to Stamford Bridge to take on Leeds United on November 21. Their final scheduled fixture within the period is an away Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on November 27.
Missing these fixtures would leave Chelsea without Martínez for several significant domestic encounters, including the Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool.
Nevertheless, Chelsea supporters will hope the goalkeeper makes a full recovery and returns as soon as possible. Until the club provides an official medical update and confirms a return timeframe, the possibility of him missing all six matches should be treated as an estimate rather than a certainty.
