According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 29, 2026, Barcelona are optimistic that new signing Dany Freire will receive FIFA’s final approval to make his official debut for the club within the next two weeks.
The 16-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder joined Barcelona’s Juvenil B team in September and has been training with his teammates while awaiting the completion of his registration.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the delay is related to administrative procedures rather than any sporting concerns. The necessary paperwork is still being processed by FIFA, although Barcelona believe the situation could soon be resolved.
Freire attracted Barcelona’s attention after impressing during a trial with the club. His performances convinced the Catalan giants to sign him permanently after he turned 16 in September.
Before his arrival was confirmed, the youngster participated in several pre-season friendly matches with the Juvenil B squad. However, he has yet to feature in an official competitive fixture because his registration remains incomplete.
Barcelona are hopeful that the outstanding formalities will be completed within the next fortnight. This would allow the talented midfielder to begin his competitive career with the club.
Despite the delay, Freire has already achieved an important milestone by receiving his first call-up to Portugal’s Under-17 national team. His international recognition highlights the potential he has demonstrated since joining Barcelona.
Freire impressed during pre-season under Juvenil B coach Cesc Bosch. His versatility and attacking qualities helped him stand out among his teammates.
The youngster was named player of the match in one friendly encounter and also celebrated a victory against Real Madrid, giving him an early taste of success against Barcelona’s biggest rivals.
Freire has also scored while representing Barcelona, providing an encouraging indication of his attacking ability. His early performances have raised expectations about what he could offer the team once he becomes eligible to play.
For now, Barcelona’s priority is to secure FIFA’s approval and complete the registration process. The club will hope the promising Portuguese youngster can make his official debut soon and continue developing through competitive football.
