Steven Gerrard believes Arsenal have demonstrated why they are capable of defending their Premier League title after securing an important victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
According to a report by Football London on Monday, November 2, 2026, the former Liverpool captain has backed Mikel Arteta's side to win the Premier League again, insisting their ability to overcome difficult challenges could prove decisive in the title race.
Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool on Sunday. The result moved the Gunners three points clear of Manchester City, while Liverpool were left nine points behind the league leaders.
The victory was particularly significant because Arsenal had to withstand pressure from their hosts before securing all three points.
Gerrard believes performances of that nature could ultimately make the difference between winning and losing the title.
Speaking on Monday's episode of The Overlap, Gerrard praised Arsenal's resilience and their ability to produce different types of performances rather than relying solely on attacking quality.
"That's how you win leagues, going to places like Liverpool, being strong, sticking together, and putting in a different type of performance, which was full of grit and fight and togetherness, and they got over the line," he said.
The former England international also maintained that Arsenal would remember their difficult afternoon at Anfield as an important moment if they eventually lift the trophy.
"They'll look at that and think, we went to Anfield, tough crowd to play against, tough Liverpool performance, Andoni Iraola's got this Liverpool team playing an awful lot better, Liverpool played well and we managed to get out of there with three points."
Gerrard added that he had not changed his prediction from the beginning of the campaign and still expects Arsenal to finish as champions.
He also highlighted the growing gap between Arsenal and Liverpool, suggesting the latter have significant work to do if they want to return to contention.
Arsenal have now recorded four consecutive Premier League victories since their defeat against Brighton before the September international break.
Arteta's immediate attention will turn to Hull City, with Arsenal looking to extend their advantage before the November international break.
