Ryan Giggs Watches in Disbelief as Como Score Against Manchester United After Just Two Minutes

According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs watched his former club suffer a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League after travelling to Italy at the invitation of Osian Roberts.

The 52-year-old former Wales manager was present at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium for the league-phase encounter, where United made a disastrous start by conceding within the opening two minutes.

Nico Paz gave Como the lead with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area, finding the bottom-right corner to leave Giggs looking visibly disappointed in footage shown during the broadcast.

Como went on to secure an emphatic victory, with Anastasios Douvikas, Paz and Jacobo Ramon also contributing to the home side's four-goal tally. Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation for United, but the visitors were unable to prevent a heavy defeat.

Giggs' visit followed an invitation from Roberts, who works as Como's head of development. The pair previously worked together during Roberts' time on the coaching staff of the Welsh national team and have remained in contact since then.

Before attending the senior team's Champions League fixture, Giggs watched Manchester United's Under-19 side face Como in the UEFA Youth League earlier in the day.

The young Red Devils also suffered defeat, losing 2-1 to their Italian opponents. Jack Fletcher, son of former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, scored United's only goal, while Matteo Papaccioli and Matteo Albini found the net for Como.

Fletcher was subsequently named among the substitutes for the senior team's Champions League match against Como.

Roberts had expressed his delight at Giggs accepting the invitation, explaining that they were looking forward to spending time together during his visit to Italy.

He also revealed plans for Giggs to watch the youth fixture and meet Como manager Cesc Fabregas for a coffee.

The visit therefore ended with a difficult day for Manchester United across both age groups, as the Under-19s lost 2-1 before the senior side suffered a 4-1 defeat in the Champions League.
