According to a report by Football London on Monday October 26, 2026, Chelsea’s hopes of developing Kendry Paez into a first-team star have suffered another setback, with the club reportedly considering his departure following two disappointing loan spells.
The Ecuadorian attacker arrived at Stamford Bridge with considerable expectations, alongside fellow young talent Estevao Willian. However, Paez has yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea, and his immediate prospects under manager Xabi Alonso appear increasingly uncertain.
After returning to Chelsea during the summer, the 19-year-old was excluded from the senior squad and instead assigned to the Under-21 team, raising further questions about his long-term future at the club.
According to Bolavip, Chelsea have received disappointing feedback from their Under-21 management regarding Paez’s performances and development. Consequently, the Blues could consider another loan move or a permanent transfer during the January window.
Despite these concerns, Paez recently delivered an encouraging display against Liverpool’s Under-21s, providing an assist during the encounter. He also received 57 per cent of the fan vote for Man of the Match on Sofascore.
Interestingly, reports suggest the youngster is also unhappy with his current situation and could be prepared to leave Chelsea when the transfer window reopens in January.
Paez’s previous loan experiences have contributed significantly to the uncertainty surrounding his future. His first temporary spell came at Strasbourg in 2025, where he managed just one goal across 21 appearances before the agreement was terminated prematurely.
Only four of his 15 Ligue 1 appearances during that spell were starts, limiting his opportunities to establish himself. Reports from L’Équipe also raised concerns about his professionalism, lifestyle and the support he received during his time in France.
His subsequent loan at Argentine giants River Plate proved equally disappointing. Originally expected to spend two years there, Paez returned to Chelsea earlier than planned after making only 14 appearances.
Argentine journalist Renzo Pantich reported that River Plate had concerns about the youngster’s conduct both on and off the pitch, adding to the growing uncertainty surrounding his development.
With both loan spells ending prematurely, Chelsea face an important decision regarding the teenager’s future. Another temporary move remains possible, including a switch to another English club.
However, unless Paez can demonstrate consistent improvement and satisfy the club’s expectations, Chelsea could eventually decide to sell him and move forward with other young attacking prospects.
