Chelsea Consider £100m Move For Spain Star Fermin Lopez Amid PSG Interest

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make a major move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as Xabi Alonso seeks to reinforce his squad, but Paris Saint-Germain could emerge as strong rivals for the 23-year-old's signature.

According to The Athletic on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Chelsea are considering a “massive” offer for the Spanish midfielder. The Daily Briefing also reports that PSG are preparing a substantial bid as they compete for the Barcelona star.

The Blues have admired Lopez for some time, having reportedly come close to securing his signature in 2025 before the midfielder ultimately remained at the Spanish club.

Lopez has since continued to demonstrate his attacking qualities, registering four goals in nine La Liga appearances during the opening stages of the 2026/27 campaign.

His ability to contribute goals while operating in midfield makes him a potentially valuable addition for Chelsea as they explore ways to improve their attacking options in the next transfer windows.

The Spanish international was unable to participate in his country's World Cup-winning campaign over the summer due to injury. However, his recent performances suggest that he has recovered well and remains a key figure in Barcelona's squad.

Despite their interest in Lopez, Chelsea's immediate transfer priorities also include Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who is reportedly high on the club's shortlist ahead of January.

Securing Scott's services could prove difficult, as Bournemouth are expected to demand a fee of approximately £100 million. Liverpool are also believed to be monitoring the England international, potentially increasing competition for his signature.

Furthermore, Bournemouth's plans to identify a replacement for Scott could create additional complications for Chelsea. Reports indicate that the Cherries have identified Boca Juniors prospect Tomas Aranda as a potential successor should the English midfielder depart.

Aranda, who is just 19, has impressed in Argentina and reportedly has a release clause of around £18.75 million.

Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on the youngster, meaning Bournemouth's interest could interfere with the Blues' own recruitment ambitions.

With several potential targets under consideration, Alonso and the Chelsea hierarchy will need to determine which signings would provide the greatest benefit to the squad.

While Scott remains one of their primary objectives, Lopez represents another attractive option who could strengthen Chelsea's attacking midfield and provide greater creativity in the final third.
