According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday October 19, 2026, Super Eagles-eligible defender Tosin Adarabioyo suffered a suspected injury during his full Premier League debut for Tottenham Hotspur in their 3-1 victory over Coventry City on Monday night.
The centre-back was handed his first Premier League start for Tottenham after a difficult beginning to life at the club, having made just one previous appearance in the competition since joining from Chelsea before the close of the summer transfer window.
However, what should have been an important opportunity to impress manager Roberto De Zerbi ended prematurely when Tosin was forced off in the second half.
The former Manchester City defender went down inside the penalty area as Coventry increased the pressure in search of a way back into the match. Tosin subsequently signalled that he needed to be substituted, with Matheus Fernandes coming on in the 71st minute.
The injury will be a concern for Tottenham, particularly given the timing of the setback.
Tosin had been given an opportunity to stake his claim for a more regular role in De Zerbi's squad after seeing limited Premier League action earlier in the campaign. His only previous appearance came against Everton, when he replaced Archie Gray and played the final five minutes, including stoppage time.
Monday's match therefore represented a significant chance for the experienced defender to build momentum and demonstrate that he can play a bigger role for Spurs.
Instead, his night ended prematurely, leaving Tottenham hoping that the problem is not serious.
The 3-1 victory provided some consolation for Spurs, who maintained control of the contest despite Coventry's attempts to respond. But attention will now turn to Tosin's fitness and whether the injury could affect his availability for upcoming fixtures.
The defender's situation will also be watched closely by Nigerian football supporters because of his eligibility to represent the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, two Nigeria internationals were also involved during the encounter. Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka both came off the bench in the 60th minute, replacing Sidiki Chérif and Caleb Yirenkyi respectively.
