According to a report by the official Facebook page of Fabrizio Romano on Thursday October 15, 2026, Real Madrid forward Vinícius Junior has spoken out after receiving a four-match suspension for pulling an opponent’s hair during a La Liga match, questioning the severity of the punishment and calling for greater protection from referees.
The Brazilian winger expressed frustration over the disciplinary decision, arguing that he could not recall another player receiving a four-game ban for a similar incident.
“I do not remember any player being banned for 4 games for pulling the opponent’s hair,” Vinícius said.
He added, “But with Vini it’s easy... the other clubs as well as the press will say it’s ok.”
The suspension followed an incident in which Vinícius was sent off after pulling an opponent’s hair and protesting during the match.
As a result, he is set to miss Real Madrid’s league fixture against Sevilla, the El Clásico against Barcelona, and away matches against Racing Santander and Valencia.
Reacting to the decision, Vinícius also raised concerns about the physical challenges he faces during matches, arguing that referees should do more to protect attacking players from persistent fouling.
“Defenders can kick me during an entire match, yet I am the one who gets booked,” he said.
He further called for greater protection for influential attacking players, mentioning himself, Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal and Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez.
“I think we need to protect players who make a difference like me, Lamine Yamal and Julián Álvarez.”
Vinícius also reflected on his journey at Real Madrid, recalling how critics questioned his ability to score goals when he arrived at the club as an 18-year-old.
“When I arrived at 18 years old, people laughed at me and said I cannot score goals. Now I have more than 100 goals for Real Madrid. Do not forget that,” he said.
Despite the suspension, the Brazilian forward remained confident about his future, pointing to his achievements and insisting that he would return stronger.
“I’ve won a lot of titles here… I do not need to name and count them. I’ll be back, mark my words, that’s for sure.”
His remarks have renewed discussions about refereeing decisions, disciplinary consistency and the treatment of attacking players in football.
However, the suspension also places attention on Vinícius’ own conduct during matches, highlighting the continuing debate over how football authorities should balance player protection with discipline on the pitch.
