Champions League: What Lamine Yamal said about Osimhen’s disallowed goal

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Osimhen appeared to have increased Galatasaray’s advantage during the first half of Tuesday’s match after connecting with a powerful header. However, the goal was overturned following a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), denying the Turkish side a potentially important lead.

Barcelona eventually produced an impressive comeback, scoring four goals to secure a 4-1 victory in Istanbul and collect all three points. The result demonstrated the Spanish club’s attacking strength, although Yamal admitted that the disallowed effort could have changed the course of the contest.

Speaking about the incident, the teenage winger recognised the difficulty Barcelona might have faced if the Nigerian striker’s goal had been allowed to stand.

“If Galatasaray’s second goal hadn’t been disallowed, our job in Istanbul would have been very tough,” Yamal said, as quoted by Le Marca Sports.

His assessment highlights how significant the VAR decision was during a match in which Galatasaray had the opportunity to establish a commanding position. A two-goal advantage would have placed additional pressure on Barcelona and potentially forced them to take greater risks in their pursuit of a comeback.

Osimhen had been hoping to help Galatasaray strengthen their position against one of Europe’s leading clubs. However, the decision to disallow his header proved disappointing for the home side, particularly given Barcelona’s eventual dominance on the scoresheet.

Despite the setback, Barcelona demonstrated their ability to recover from difficult situations. The visitors improved their attacking performance and found the net four times, turning the encounter into a convincing victory.

For Galatasaray, the result will be frustrating because the disallowed goal represented a possible turning point. Had it counted, Barcelona would have faced a more demanding challenge in trying to overturn the deficit.

Yamal’s admission also reflects the fine margins that can influence high-level European football, where individual moments and refereeing decisions can have a major impact on the outcome of a match.

Barcelona will take confidence from their comeback victory as they continue their Champions League campaign, while Galatasaray will look to learn from the defeat and improve their performances in subsequent fixtures.

The encounter has also drawn attention to Osimhen’s contribution and the importance of VAR decisions in determining crucial moments in European competition.
