According to a report by Channels Television on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have discovered their opponents for the next stage of the African qualifiers for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, with Morocco standing between them and the next round.
The Super Falcons secured their passage to the third round after delivering an impressive performance against Comoros in the second leg of their second-round qualifier.
Nigeria thrashed Comoros 5-0 in the return fixture to complete a dominant 7-0 aggregate victory. Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu both scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe added the fifth goal from the penalty spot.
Following their emphatic qualification, the Super Falcons will now turn their attention to a difficult tie against Morocco as they continue their quest to book a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Morocco’s women’s national team, popularly known as the Atlas Lionesses, has made significant progress in recent years and established itself as one of the stronger teams in African women’s football. Their meeting with Nigeria is therefore expected to be a highly competitive encounter, with both sides aiming to advance in the qualification race.
The two-legged tie is expected to be played between February 23 and March 6, 2027. The winner over the two legs will progress to the fourth round of the African qualifiers, moving one step closer to securing an Olympic ticket.
With only two African teams expected to qualify for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympics, Nigeria will have little room for complacency. The Super Falcons will need to maintain their current form and produce strong performances in both legs against Morocco.
Meanwhile, captain Rasheedat Ajibade remains a concern after she was forced off the pitch following a collision during Nigeria’s victory over Comoros on Tuesday. Her fitness will be monitored ahead of the team’s next assignment.
Nigeria returned to the women’s Olympic football tournament at Paris 2024 after missing three consecutive editions. The Super Falcons will now be determined to secure another appearance at the global sporting event by defeating Morocco and keeping their qualification campaign on track.
While the commanding win over Comoros demonstrated Nigeria’s attacking strength, Morocco is expected to provide a much tougher challenge. The Super Falcons must therefore remain focused and deliver across both matches to keep their Olympic hopes alive.
