Real Madrid’s Calafiori Interest Meets Arsenal’s €100m Transfer Stance

According to a report by Sports Mole on October 20, 2026, Real Madrid are considering a move for Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori as they assess options to strengthen their backline. The Spanish club have reportedly contacted individuals close to the Italian international to gather information about his situation, although they have yet to submit an official transfer offer.

Arsenal, however, are believed to be unwilling to discuss the defender’s departure unless Real Madrid present a proposal exceeding €100 million, equivalent to approximately £85 million. Such a valuation could make negotiations difficult for the Spanish giants if they decide to pursue the 24-year-old more seriously.

Calafiori joined Arsenal from Bologna in the summer of 2024 in a transfer reportedly worth £37 million. His early period in North London was affected by injuries, which limited his opportunities to establish himself consistently within Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Nevertheless, the Italian defender has become an important figure in Arsenal’s defensive structure this season. He has started all seven of the club’s opening Premier League matches, underlining the confidence Arteta has placed in his abilities and the value he brings to the team.

One of Calafiori’s biggest strengths is his versatility. Although primarily recognised as a defender, he can operate effectively at left-back or centre-back, giving his manager additional tactical options when selecting the starting lineup.

His ability to move into midfield during possession also makes him suitable for Arteta’s approach, which often requires defenders to contribute to building attacks and controlling the game from deeper positions.

Real Madrid’s interest reportedly reflects their desire to identify defensive reinforcements capable of providing quality and flexibility. Calafiori’s age, technical ability and experience in competitive European football could make him an attractive long-term option for the Spanish club.

Despite the reported attention from Madrid, Arsenal are determined to keep the defender as part of their long-term plans. His contract at the Emirates Stadium runs until June 2029, giving the Premier League side a strong position in any potential negotiations.

There has also been no indication that Calafiori is actively seeking a move away from Arsenal. His regular involvement in the team suggests he remains an important part of the club’s plans as they compete for major honours.

Real Madrid are expected to continue monitoring his progress before deciding whether to make a formal approach. However, Arsenal’s reported financial demands could prove a significant obstacle, particularly if the Spanish side are unwilling to meet the proposed valuation.

For now, Calafiori’s future remains with Arsenal, while Madrid’s reported interest adds another layer of speculation ahead of future transfer windows.
