According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in a UEFA Champions League match, Manchester United were stunned to lose to Como 4-1.
With just two minutes played, Nico Paz put Como ahead thanks to a pass from Lucas Da Cunha and a left-foot finish. Da Cunha had set up Paz. Italian side kept pressing Manchester United's defense, making it difficult for United to gain control of the game.
United fought valiantly to get back into the game, but Como doubled their lead just before halftime. The home team looked much more dangerous and assured whenever they advanced the ball.
Anastasios Douvikas scored for Como in the 49th minute, capping a move that Nico Paz and Martin Baturina had started, further aggravating the situation for Carrick's men.
Carlos Baleba's carelessness in a dangerous area led to Paz scoring his second goal of the match in the 57th minute, extending United's lead to 3-0. The goal further diminished United's already slim prospects of salvaging anything from the match by revealing yet another midfield vulnerability.
The traveling supporters were let down by Como's fourth goal, which was scored in the 76th minute by Jacobo Ramon off a cross by Kaiki. Some of them even started to leave the stadium before the final whistle blew.
A late consolation goal by Joshua Zirkzee (assisted by Amad Diallo) in the 90th minute didn't alter the game's outcome, though.
Because of the loss, Carrick's Manchester United fell to 20th place in the Champions League standings with three points, while Como jumped to sixth place with six points following a remarkable triumph.
