According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after discussing how much he is loving his time on loan at Real Sociedad, Chelsea defender Mamadou Sarr dropped hints that he may think about leaving Stamford Bridge permanently.
After battling for playing time at Chelsea last season, the 21-year-old Senegalese international seems to have found his confidence and happiness again.
With just six appearances for the Blues since his January return from Strasbourg, he was loaned out to Real Sociedad for the season in the summer.
Following Liam Rosenior's appointment as manager, Chelsea were prompted to recall Sarr due to his prior impressive performance while in France.
Despite making a triumphant return to Stamford Bridge, he was unable to make an impact as a first team regular, especially toward the end of the season.
After a disastrous error in Chelsea's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, the young defender had a frustrating spell and appeared in just nine minutes of the club's last ten Premier League matches.
The emotional rollercoaster that was Sarr's time at Chelsea, which he described in an interview with the French newspaper L'Equipe, became more difficult as a result of his disengagement from the team.
It was especially tough for the Senegalese international to watch his teammates play while he was out with an injury, and he was unhappy that he never got an explanation for why he was getting less playing time.
Having made nine appearances for Real Sociedad since his arrival in Spain, though, things have looked much better, and he seems to have gotten the regular football he sorely needed.
In light of his new beginning, Sarr opened up about how he finally feels like himself after years of waiting for a chance to move on from Chelsea and pursue his career goals elsewhere. He went on to say that playing football was his number one priority and lauded his resolve to get back into competitive action.
The defender went on to praise Real Sociedad for its supportive culture, saying that the club has faith in its young players and provides them with opportunities to grow and succeed.
Given that Chelsea are expected to strengthen their central defensive options in preparation for the next campaign under new manager Xabi Alonso, his recent comments may cast doubt on the club's prospects of keeping him beyond the current season.
Among Chelsea's purported pursuits this summer, defender Jacobo Ramon of Como has emerged as a possible target, joining the club's already-established Maxence Lacroix.
If Chelsea receive an offer higher than Sarr's estimated market value of €25.6 million—and he seems to be enjoying his football in Spain—a permanent transfer could become a realistic possibility next summer.
