According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 in an entertaining Champions League encounter on Tuesday night, handing Hansi Flick’s side their first defeat of the season across all competitions.

Barcelona started brightly, creating opportunities through Pedri and Lamine Yamal, while goalkeeper Matvey Safonov denied several attempts. PSG threatened through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who struck the post early.

PSG suffered an early setback when Ousmane Dembele departed through injury in the 20th minute, with Ferran Torres replacing him. Barcelona also lost Dani Olmo to injury in the 27th minute, forcing Fermin Lopez into action.

Desire Doue opened the scoring for PSG in the 38th minute, powering Joao Neves’ headed pass beyond Joan Garcia. Barcelona struggled to convert their opportunities before the interval, leaving the hosts with a deserved advantage.

Barcelona equalised in the 55th minute when Fermin released Xavi Espart inside the penalty area, and the youngster finished confidently into the right corner. The visitors subsequently searched for a second goal.

However, PSG regained their advantage in the 72nd minute through Lucas Hernandez, who headed Desire Doue’s corner into the top-right corner. Barcelona now faced another difficult challenge against the French champions.

Yamal restored parity in the 79th minute, producing an excellent solo run before finishing past Safonov. Yet Barcelona’s celebrations proved short-lived, as Vitinha struck brilliantly from outside the box in the 81st minute.

Fabian Ruiz sealed PSG’s victory in the 86th minute, tapping into an empty net after Achraf Hakimi supplied the decisive pass. Barcelona attempted a late response but failed to reduce the deficit.

The defeat ended Barcelona’s unbeaten start to the season, while PSG demonstrated their attacking quality despite losing key players to injuries. Flick’s team must now address their defensive weaknesses after conceding four goals in Paris.
