According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Monday October 26, 2026, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reported to the club's Carrington training ground on Monday morning amid growing uncertainty over manager Michael Carrick's future following Sunday's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Fernandes' presence at the training ground attracted attention as United's senior officials, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, also arrived for discussions regarding Carrick's position at the club.
However, according to reports, the Portuguese midfielder visited Carrington to receive treatment for an injury. Several other injured players also reported to the training ground, while the rest of the squad were given their usual day off following the Bournemouth match.
United's hierarchy are considering whether to dismiss Carrick after the defeat extended the club's winless run to eight matches across all competitions. The team's poor performances have increased the pressure on the manager, with the club's leadership now facing important decisions about the direction of the season.
The situation has been complicated by the growing tension between Carrick and Fernandes over the past week. The pair previously enjoyed a close relationship, having worked together during Carrick's time on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's coaching staff at Old Trafford.
However, their relationship has come under scrutiny since Fernandes questioned Carrick's tactics following Manchester United's heavy Champions League defeat to Como.
Fernandes reportedly expressed concerns about the team's approach, particularly the decision not to press opponents man-to-man. His comments came at a difficult time for Carrick, whose position has become increasingly uncertain because of United's disappointing results.
The disagreement was followed by Carrick's decision to leave the United captain on the bench for Sunday's Premier League encounter against Bournemouth.
Fernandes arrived at the stadium with his hood up and was named among the substitutes. Carrick sent him out to warm up during the second half, but the midfielder ultimately remained an unused substitute after the manager made all his permitted changes.
The decision raised further questions about the relationship between the pair, particularly given Fernandes' importance to the team and his status as club captain.
The Portugal international also attracted attention on social media after his official Instagram account reportedly liked a post that read: "Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care."
The activity has fuelled speculation that Fernandes could be unhappy with the situation at Manchester United. However, there has been no confirmation that the post was directed at Carrick or the club.
Meanwhile, Berrada and Wilcox's presence at Carrington has added to the uncertainty surrounding the manager's future. United's decision-makers are reportedly assessing the situation following a run of results that has left the team struggling for consistency.
Carrick has faced increasing criticism as United continue to search for a return to winning ways. The defeat to Bournemouth has intensified the pressure, with the club now having gone eight consecutive matches without a victory in all competitions.
Fernandes' visit to Carrington, therefore, comes at a particularly sensitive moment for the club. While the midfielder was reportedly there for treatment rather than the managerial discussions, the timing has drawn attention because of his recent disagreement with Carrick.
