According to a report by Football London on Friday October 30, 2026, Chelsea and Manchester United will meet at Stamford Bridge on Saturday following difficult weeks for both clubs, with pundits Peter Crouch and Steve Sidwell offering contrasting predictions ahead of this Premier League encounter.
Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea have suffered consecutive home defeats against Tottenham and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. Their problems have increased following injuries to Joao Pedro and Maxence Lacroix, creating further selection concerns.
Manchester United’s situation appears equally troubling, with Michael Carrick facing pressure after disappointing results against Como, Bournemouth and Tottenham, alongside controversy surrounding Bruno Fernandes, raising doubts about the team’s current stability.
Chelsea could receive a timely boost as Cole Palmer returns to the squad, while Fernandes is also expected to feature for United. Home advantage could prove crucial in determining Saturday’s outcome.
Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, the former Liverpool striker acknowledged Chelsea’s injury problems but believes they possess enough quality to secure victory against their struggling opponents.
Crouch explained: “You’d expect Chelsea to win. I’m going Chelsea 2-1.” His prediction reflects Manchester United’s current difficulties, although Chelsea’s recent performances suggest this encounter could prove more complicated.
Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell also expects the hosts to collect maximum points, although his prediction differs slightly from Crouch’s assessment of the likely scoreline.
Sidwell stressed the importance of the fixture, saying: “Big game for Chelsea.” He subsequently backed Alonso’s side to secure a narrow 1-0 victory despite their recent disappointing results.
However, Chelsea’s historical record against Manchester United presents a significant concern, with Saturday’s meeting marking their twentieth encounter since Eden Hazard’s decisive goal in the 2018 FA Cup final.
Across their previous nineteen meetings, Chelsea have recorded only three victories, while United have won eight matches. The remaining eight encounters ended in draws, highlighting the Blues’ longstanding difficulties.
Chelsea’s victories include their 2020 FA Cup semi-final triumph, a thrilling 4-3 Premier League victory under Mauricio Pochettino, and their narrow 1-0 success towards the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
Nevertheless, Alonso desperately needs a positive result to ease growing pressure surrounding his position. Another disappointing performance could intensify scrutiny, making Saturday’s showdown particularly important for Chelsea’s immediate future.
