According to a report by Football London on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Chelsea have entered the race alongside Galatasaray to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yasin Ayari, with negotiations over a new contract reportedly stalling and creating uncertainty about his future at the club.
The 23-year-old Sweden international has become an important figure under Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, attracting interest from several clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.
Ayari’s current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, although Brighton possess an option to extend his agreement by another 12 months. However, the club have yet to activate the clause despite expectations from the player’s representatives.
Discussions over fresh terms reportedly began before the summer but have encountered difficulties, leaving potential suitors monitoring developments. Chelsea are among the clubs exploring the situation as they consider strengthening their midfield options.
The midfielder is already familiar to Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley, who previously worked as Brighton’s head of scouting before departing in November 2022. Winstanley played an important role in identifying Ayari’s potential and continues to monitor his progress.
Chelsea have established strong recruitment links with Brighton in recent years, signing several players, including Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro. Danny Welbeck also moved between the clubs during the summer, highlighting their continued transfer connections.
However, Chelsea could face considerable competition for Ayari’s signature, with several Premier League sides reportedly following his situation. Interest from European clubs could also become a significant factor in determining his next destination.
Galatasaray remain particularly interested after considering a move for the Swedish midfielder during the previous summer transfer window. The Turkish club are monitoring developments to determine whether Brighton’s unresolved contract negotiations could create an opportunity.
The Istanbul outfit have also tracked Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, but Ayari represents a younger and potentially less expensive alternative.
Saudi Pro League clubs have reportedly made enquiries as well, reflecting the growing attention surrounding the midfielder following his performances in England.
Ayari has recorded two assists in Brighton’s opening six league matches, contributing to the club’s encouraging start under Hurzeler. His creativity and influence in midfield have made him an important component of their attacking approach.
Brighton are keen to retain a player central to their ambitions, particularly as they pursue an unexpected challenge for a Premier League top-four finish. Nevertheless, the unresolved contract situation could complicate their efforts.
Activating the extension clause would provide Brighton with additional protection, but their next decision could prove crucial as Chelsea, Galatasaray and other interested clubs continue monitoring Ayari’s availability.
