According to a report by Madrid Universal on Wednesday October 28, 2026, Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler is becoming an increasingly important figure under Jose Mourinho following his impressive performances, particularly in the 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clasico.
According to reports, the Turkish international is emerging as one of the players Mourinho trusts most, alongside Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.
Güler played until the 94th minute against Barcelona and played a crucial role in the move that led to Mbappe’s winning goal. His impressive pass helped initiate the attack that secured the victory for the Spanish giants.
Mourinho’s decision to keep the midfielder on the pitch until the closing stages was significant, considering his substitution record earlier in the season.
In each of his previous eight starts, Güler had been withdrawn before the final stages. His longest appearance as a starter before the Clasico was 78 minutes against Sevilla.
However, his performance against Barcelona demonstrated why Mourinho is increasingly willing to rely on him during decisive moments.
The 21-year-old has also delivered impressive attacking numbers this season. Across 12 appearances, he has recorded four goals and three assists, making him Real Madrid’s second-most productive attacking player behind Mbappe, according to the report.
Güler’s vision, technical ability and understanding of the game have made him a valuable option in Mourinho’s system. His contribution against Barcelona further highlighted his ability to influence matches beyond scoring and assisting directly.
