Tanzania has announced their squad for next week's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles in Uyo. According to the Daily Post, head coach Miguel Gamondi picked 24 players, most of them from the Tanzania Premier League. The Citizen reports, quoting the Tanzania Football Federation, that the players will report to camp on November 8. The first leg will be held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, November 13.
Azam FC and defending champions Yanga SC each contribute five players, according to The Citizen. Azam's list includes goalkeeper Aishi Manula and Feisal Salum, while Yanga's contingent features Clement Mzize and Dickson Job. Simba SC have two representatives, and Kagera Sugar and Singida Black Stars complete the home-based selection. The foreign-based players include Novatus Miroshi of Goztepe in Turkey, Cyprian Kachewele of Kryvbas in Ukraine and Bernard Kamongo of FC Dallas in the United States.
Nigeria opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Madagascar in Uyo in September, when George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored, according to the BBC. The Super Eagles then lost 3-0 away to Guinea-Bissau in their second game. According to Sport News Africa, Guinea-Bissau lead Group L with six points and Nigeria are second with three. Tanzania has one point from two matches after losing 2-0 to Guinea-Bissau anddrawing 1-1 with Madagascar, as reported by the Daily Post.
Because Tanzania will co-host the 2027 finals with Kenya and Uganda, they have already secured their place in the tournament. According to the BBC, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Madagascar are now fighting for the one remaining qualifying spot in the group. Winning both games against Tanzania would lift Nigeria to nine points. Madagascar hosts Guinea-Bissau in the other group match during the same window. The finals takeplace from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The return leg takes place in Tanzania on Tuesday, November 17. The Super Eagles will use both matches to revive a campaign that was damaged by the heavy defeat in Guinea-Bissau. According to The Citizen, the Taifa Stars view the double-header as a chance to test themselves against one of Africa's most established football nations. Nigeria will face Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar again in March 2027, when the group stageends.
